A Hard Rain's A Gonna Fall
The original photo was of this gorgeous oak in a field between Salem and Silverton, Oregon. It stood under a sunny sky, but I blended it with other textural elements and altered papers to give it a stormy sky. Digitally altered with layers of photographs, textural elements, and altered paper.
Archival print. 12 x 8/$70, 18 x 12/$115, Greeting Card /$4

Cairn on Neptune Beach
While hanging out at the coast one day, I was taking pix on a bluff above the beach and noticed this tiny cairn on the big rock. Digitally altered with other photos and textural elements.

Midwinter's Dream
A lovely autumn day by Fern Ridge outside of Eugene, Oregon. I could feel winter coming and so transformed this image to give it a wintery feel.
Photographs and handmade textural elements — digitally layered and manipulated.

Perilous Dream
The ominous tone of this image began to develop as I added layers and effects. I allowed the process to lead me as the story unfolded. There is darkness, but there is also light, and although the crows may be a symbol of death to some, to me they represent introspection and transformation. I see them as bringing the light to this image.
As I took the original photo of the tree, pasture, and crows off of Peoria Road outside of Harrisburg, Oregon. It’s one of my favorite places to go with my camera. While working with this piece, I remembered some of the public domain photos I had downloaded from NASA and found the perfect match. With few exceptions, I’ve always used my own photos in my work, but now, after creating this, NASA photos may become my general exception. I hope you enjoy this somewhat abstract piece as much as I do. Photographs and etched copper plate — digitally layered and manipulated.

Pigeon Buttte
Finley Wildlife Refuge is an artist’s dream. Pigeon Butte plays center stage where artists, birders, photographers, and nature lovers flock. I’m sure they’d do a double-take seeing this image.

Rain Dance
Digitally manipulated photo of a field of daisies. It was a hot and dry spring so I altered the daisies - dancing to the welcome rain. Photographs and monotype print — digitally layered and manipulated.

Siletz Bay
Stack on Siletz BaySiletz Bay, outside of Lincoln City, Oregon. I find it impossible to drive by this rock and not stop and take photos. This was a perfectly clear winter day and because I'm a fan of coastal storms (when I'm safe and dry) I decided that it needed to be stormy. Voila!
Photograph, etched metal plate, and handmade textural elements. Digitally layered and manipulated.
Archival print. 12 x 8/$70, 18 x 12/$115, Greeting Card /$4

Stone Beach
Originally a photo of a stunning stone-covered beach in Oregon. I wanted to make it look more like a painting.
Printed on archival paper. Archival print. 12 x 8/$70, 18 x 12/$115, Greeting Card /$4

The Sentinel
I took the original photo of this bare tree at Edgefield, outside of Portland, Oregon. This is one of several renditions. I digitally altered this piece, and then used the Prisma app on it (sometimes I can’t help myself…it’s a really fun app) and then greatly altered it again in Photoshop, using photographic textural images, an etched copper plate, and fabric. I added the crow because…well…it needed one.
Archival print. 12 x 8/$70, 18 x 12/$115, Greeting Card /$4

Three Bales
Driving home from Seattle recently I took many photos from the fast-moving car. It's a fun challenge. I was amazed at the detail that this one caught. I played with it a lot - using Prisma (I occasionally use this app...it gives some fun results) and then my studio mate ... Photoshop.

Wild Thang
This gorgeous tree stands along a forest path at Dorris Ranch in Springfield, Oregon. It looked the like sun was hitting from several directions, so I played that up in altering it. I actually took this phone with my phone and initially altered it with a phone app (Prisma), and then worked with it some more in Photoshop. Photographs and textured paper — digitally layered and manipulated.

“Love this photo! When I received the print, it was better than I expected. Roka’s integration of 3 photos to create this beautiful art brings the depth of composition to life. The vivid colors and subtle nostalgic theme are a perfect match to my home. Thank you, Roka!” ~ P.A.
